Van Metre Companies Foundation Donation to Support HomeAid Renovation of the Alexandria Women’s Shelter

Chantilly, VA – HomeAid Northern Virginia announced today that the Van Metre Companies Foundation has donated $10,000 to support the renovation of the Alexandria Women’s Shelter. HomeAid will oversee the renovation of the shelter, making it a safer, more comfortable and more welcoming environment for the women and children who live there.

The Alexandria Domestic Violence Program operates the battered women’s shelter, providing emergency housing, food, transportation and supportive counseling for women and their children who have been physically or psychologically abused, or threatened with abuse.  In Fiscal Year 2013, the shelter was a sanctuary for 67 women and 59 children, representing 14 countries of origin.

“We are pleased to announce our support of Home Aid Northern Virginia by funding $10,000 for use with the much needed renovations at the Alexandria Women’s Shelter,” said Candy McCracken, VP of Operations of Van Metre Homes and Board member, Van Metre Companies Foundation. “The Van Metre Companies Foundation is dedicated to improving the lives of people in communities where Van Metre carries on its business.”

Shelter renovations, valued at $100,000, range from installing new flooring, to updating the kitchen, bathroom and bedrooms, to installing a closed circuit camera system at the front and back doors and lock boxes in the bedrooms. HomeAid intends to bring more than 50% savings to the project.

The renovation is expected to begin in late spring 2015.
