    Work Performed:

This 5,000 sq. ft. project, HomeAid NCR’s first completed project in D.C., focused on the basement of the St. Stephen and the Incarnation Episcopal Church that is used for Community meal service by Thrive DC and Loaves and Fishes. By replacing flooring, lighting and a fresh coat of paint throughout the main room, kitchen, bathrooms, office space, laundry room, stairwell and shower facilities, The Knutson Companies provided more storage, a better flow of traffic, and a more dignified space for the more than 4,000 served here every year.

    About Loaves and Fishes:

Loaves and Fishes began as an outgrowth of St. Stephen and the Incarnation Episcopal Church’s practice in the mid-1960s of providing meals after Sunday services. When nonchurchgoers who were hungry began to appear in considerable numbers, the congregation launched a meals ministry.  As Loaves and Fishes grew, other churches stepped in to help. They are now sustained by a partnership with 11 other churches, many of them in the suburbs, and diverse foundations, community groups, and individuals. Their mission and goals are two-fold: to feed people who are hungry in our community and to educate volunteers and community members about hunger and homelessness.

    About Thrive DC:

Thrive DC works to prevent and end homelessness in Washington, DC by providing vulnerable people with a wide range of services to help stabilize their lives. Founded in 1979 to serve dinner to homeless women, Thrive DC has grown to be a comprehensive, professionally staffed, bilingual organization serving more than 2,000 men, women, and children each year. They are a safety net for people experiencing homelessness, unemployment, housing instability, and food insecurity.
