Second Story - Young Mothers House - Fairfax, VA

This renovation focused on a three-level, three-bedroom townhouse operated by Second Story that provides supportive housing for young mothers and their children. The project was designed to create a safe, functional, and nurturing environment where families can rebuild their lives and move toward greater independence.

The renovation included:

• Painting the entire home to brighten and refresh all living spaces.
• Upgrading electrical systems and installing additional outlets in staff offices to improve safety and functionality.
• Replacing the HVAC system to provide reliable heating and cooling throughout the year.
• Installing high-traffic carpet on the stairwells and replacing worn upstairs carpeting with durable luxury vinyl plank flooring.
• Adding custom built-in cabinetry in the living room to increase storage and support resident programs, meetings, and family activities.
• Replacing kitchen and laundry appliances with energy-efficient, space-saving models.
• Repairing and repainting kitchen cabinets, installing new hardware, and adding granite countertops and a subway tile backsplash.
• Enhancing the front and rear landscaping to create attractive and usable outdoor spaces.
• Installing a new backyard playhouse to provide children with a safe and engaging place to play.

These renovations transformed the townhouse into a warm and supportive home that better meets the needs of young mothers and their children.
