HomeAid National Capital Region is partnering with Atlantic Builders and Micah Ecumenical Ministries to help bring the Jeremiah Community to life in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Jeremiah Community is an innovative permanent supportive housing neighborhood designed to provide safe, affordable homes and a strong sense of community for individuals overcoming chronic homelessness.
The vision for Jeremiah Community grew from Micah Ministries’ years of experience serving Fredericksburg’s unhoused neighbors. Micah recognized that for many individuals, a home is about more than four walls and a key Jeremiah Community seeks to create a place where residents can build connections while receiving the support they need to thrive.
The community’s first phase will include 50 tiny homes and a community center. The homes are designed to provide residents with private, dignified living spaces while the neighborhood itself encourages connection and shared community life. HomeAid NCR is working alongside Atlantic Builders to engage the building industry and help provide the construction expertise, resources, and partnerships needed to support Micah’s vision.
As part of the project, local trade partners and students from The Oberle Academy’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) Program will build a Jeremiah Community prototype home in just 72 hours the week of September 7. The Oberle Academy provides specialized education and hands-on career training for students with learning differences, and the prototype will serve as a real-world training opportunity for its CTE students while demonstrating the design for future Jeremiah Community homes.
The mission of Micah Ecumenical Ministries is to cultivate a “continuum of compassion” with unhoused neighbors, focusing not just on immediate needs but on long-term stability and belonging. Their vision is a community where every person has a home, supported by wholistic care that honors each person’s dignity and supports their agency. Through these principles, Micah seeks to empower individuals while fostering a compassionate and connected community.
