This renovation project focused on improving a single-family home operated by Good Shepherd of Northern VA that provides group housing for mothers and children transitioning out of homelessness. The renovation created a safer, more comfortable, and more functional living environment that supports stability, healing, and independence.
Outside the home, we replaced non-functioning exterior lighting fixtures and installed additional lighting at the house corners to improve safety and nighttime visibility. We repaired cracks in the foundation, addressed rotting exterior trim, doors, and windows, and inspected the foundation for signs of moisture or mold, taking corrective action as needed. We also removed excessive weeds and overgrowth at the back of the home and updated the landscaping to improve the usability of the outdoor space. In addition, we replaced the roof and repainted the entire exterior, giving the home a like-new appearance.
Inside the home, we inspected the electrical system and completed the necessary repairs and replacements to ensure code compliance and resident safety. We conducted a full inspection of the HVAC system and repaired or replaced components as needed to provide reliable heating and cooling. We painted throughout the home to refresh and brighten the living spaces. The existing propane stove was replaced with a safer, more efficient electric unit, and we also replaced the malfunctioning microwave and the washer and dryer units. In the kitchen, dining, and laundry areas, as well as in one previously carpeted bedroom, we installed durable luxury vinyl plank (LVP) flooring. In the bathrooms, we resealed loose toilets, repaired cracked tile, and reglazed the bathtub to restore cleanliness and usability. In the House Monitor’s unit, we updated the carpet and added fresh paint to create a comfortable work and rest space, and we also repainted the Case Manager’s office.
Together, these improvements restored the home’s safety, functionality, and welcoming atmosphere, ensuring it can continue to serve families in transition with dignity and support for years to come.
