The Presidents’ Award, presented to an individual, a company or an organization that has shown exceptional dedication to the goal of ending homelessness with service to HomeAid Northern Virginia, is the organization’s highest honor. In presenting the award to Doug Smith, HANV Board President John Monacci said, “HomeAid’s past presidents chose Doug because of his enduring commitment to the organization from its very beginning. He has served on our board since 2002, with leadership roles as president and shelter care committee chair, while Miller & Smith—with leadership and inspiration from Doug—has generously completed at least one shelter project each year, making more than a $800,000 investment in the Northern Virginia community. Doug’s humble and charitable nature is an inspiration to us all.”
“This award was a pleasant surprise for me, and it’s a wonderful honor to be included among the list of former award recipients,” said Smith. “This year’s Gala was a very special evening for so many reasons, but especially because it was a chance to get more than 400 people together to celebrate HomeAid’s tenth year. That’s a significant accomplishment, and it was important to share the message of HomeAid and celebrate our results with so many.”
