HomeAid Northern Virginia Announces Recipients of Presidents’ Award and Trade Partner of the Year Award

Chantilly, VA. — HomeAid Northern Virginia, which builds and renovates homeless shelters, transitional houses, food banks, medical clinics, counseling centers, and other facilities that help homeless families and individuals, announced that Doug Smith, president, Miller & Smith, has won its annual Presidents’ Award and that John Darvish Construction has won its Trade Partner of the Year Award.

The Presidents’ Award, presented to an individual, a company or an organization that has shown exceptional dedication to the goal of ending homelessness with service to HomeAid Northern Virginia, is the organization’s highest honor. The Trade Partner of the Year Award is presented to a vendor, trade partner or industry partner who has gone above and beyond in their service to HomeAid.

“HomeAid’s past presidents chose Doug Smith because of his enduring commitment to the organization from its very beginning,” said John Monacci, board president, HomeAid Northern Virginia and senior vice president, Winchester Homes. “Since 2006, with leadership and inspiration from Doug, Miller & Smith has generously completed at least one shelter project each year, making more than a $700,000 investment in the Northern Virginia community. Doug’s humble and charitable nature is an inspiration to all of us.”

“HomeAid’s past presidents chose John Darvish Construction because, for many years, the company and its president, John Darvish, has worked tirelessly on behalf of the organization,” Monacci continued. “They consistently contribute to several shelter projects each year, donating thousands of dollars in materials, time, and expertise to help organizations in our community. John possesses a wonderfully positive spirit that compels him to help those in need. He always looks for opportunities to give back to the communities that have helped him be successful.”

Doug Smith and John Darvish Construction will receive their awards at HomeAid Northern Virginia’s 10th Anniversary Gala and Auction, November 5, 2011, 6:00 pm, Dulles Westin Hotel.
