HomeAid Helps Give Head Start to Children

Builder Captain Miller & Smith recently completed a HomeAid Northern Virginia renovation project for Northern Virginia Family Service’s (NVFS) SERVE campus in Manassas.  Existing space at the facility was renovated to provide a Head Start day care facility, a children’s playground and a library for NVFS clients. Working with HomeAid helped NVFS save 60% of the $100,000 retail cost of the project.

“Walking into our new Early Head Start classroom and family library at SERVE took my breath away!” said Mary Agee, President and CEO of Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS).  “HomeAid took an ordinary classroom and former kitchen, and turned them into a beautiful and safe environment for our infants and toddlers from our family shelter and the immediate community.  All the built-in cabinetry in the library transformed what was a computer lab room.  Our children and families will now have a warm and inviting place to read and to encourage family literacy.  Thank you, HomeAid!”

HomeAid hosted an appreciation luncheon for Miller & Smith and all the trade partners who worked on the project.  To help celebrate, Senator Charles Colgan, Manassas Mayor Hal Parrish, Manassas City Manager Larry Hughes, City Council Member Mark Wolf and Prince William County Board of Supervisors member Wally Covington attended the luncheon.

“This is a welcome and much needed addition to the Manassas community,” said Christy Eaton, Executive Director of HomeAid Northern Virginia.  “Northern Virginia Family Service identified the need in the community and shared it with us. Builder Captain Miller & Smith and its trade partners were able to turn this dream into a reality!”
