If you or your organization is looking to “pay it forward” with a day (or even a few hours) of community service, Women Giving Back (WGB) needs you!
WGB—a HomeAid Northern Virginia program that helps transitionally homeless women get back on their feet with clothes and accessories suitable for re-entering the workplace—is in the enviable position of having loads of clothing to distribute, but it all needs to be sorted before it can be put out on the shelves.
And that’s where you come in! WGB will help arrange private “sorting parties” for interested individuals or companies, and the parties can be scheduled at any time during the day or night, except during the second week of the month. Food and refreshments can also be made available. To maximize the fun and make a sufficient “dent” in the items to be sorted, a minimum of five people is recommended, and volunteers should plan on spending at least three hours.
For more information or to schedule a sorting party, e-mail womengivingback@gmail.com, and know that you’re one step closer to being part of an enormously successful operation that has distributed more than 150,000 items of clothing to women and children from more than 60 shelters in Northern Virginia since its founding in 2007.
WGB also collected enough toys to fill three SUVs at HomeAid Northern Virginia’s Gala in November, and the toys were distributed to shoppers during WGB’s December Store. This marks the fourth year WGB has decorated and organized a “Santa’s Workshop” for shoppers’ children. Many thanks to this year’s Gala Table Captains, who were so instrumental in gathering toy donations! |
