Our Secret Garden Gala & Auction is around the corner, promising an evening filled with community, inspiration, and purpose. Together we’ll celebrate the best of our regional building industry, who work with us year-round supporting our nonprofit partners and the families and individuals they serve. As our largest fundraiser of the year, money we raise through sponsorship, paddle challenge and auction makes it possible for us to sustain our mission of providing housing and programmatic facilities for those experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness.
This year, we need that support more than ever. We have 10 construction projects in the pipeline and, by year-end, will have completed 15 turnovers, which are designed to help organizations refresh units that need new flooring and paint so that new families can move in as quickly as possible. All told, we’ll complete more than $6 million worth of construction projects this year, supporting 11 different nonprofits all over Northern Virginia and as far south and west as Winchester and Warrenton.
Beyond our construction projects and Turnover Program, we’ve collected over a million diapers and other household essentials, constantly striving to meet nonprofits where they are, fill funding gaps, and advance their ability to provide safe living spaces and a hand up for their clients. It’s no exaggeration to say that fundraisers like the Gala make what we do possible, and as the needs in our communities continue to grow, so too does our commitment to raise more, help more, and provide more.
Please, join us on November 15th. Bring your friends, clients, and colleagues and together support the paddle challenge, sponsor the event, or buy an auction item. Your generosity will mean that we can support the projects, the nonprofits, and – most importantly, the people. Help veterans find a life of independence. Give survivors of domestic violence a safe space to sleep and recover. Provide the gift of play to kids who have struggled more in their young lives than many do in a lifetime. Give hope to those who need it most. Can we count on you in November?

With gratitude,

HomeAid’s ‘Secret Garden’ Gala & Auction presented by Walsh Colucci Lubeley & Walsh is next month! We’re looking forward to welcoming you to Westfields Marriott Washington Dulles on Saturday, November 15, with the silent auction and reception starting at 6:30 p.m., and dinner and the program at 8:15 p.m.
It’s our biggest fundraiser of the year, and it’s packed full of fun for our supporters and guests, too! Our reception is a warmup to what we promise will be a great night, with a champagne welcome and signature cocktail, photo booth, silent auction, cocktail ice luge, and music. You’ll enjoy a seated dinner, lively auction and paddle challenge, a video about our impact, and our Presidents’ Circle Awards, when we celebrate the very best of our building industry.
Come for the fun, support our mission through a sponsorship, and/or commit to spreading the word and supporting a cause you believe in by serving as a Table Captain. Help make it possible for HomeAid to continue rebuilding lives through construction allowing these organizations to allocate their critical resources on programming and interventions so individuals and families can work toward stability.
Since 2001, HomeAid National Capital Region has completed 205 construction projects and together, we’ve changed the lives of over 339,000 people in our region. Join us on November 15!
A limited number of rooms have been reserved for HomeAid Gala guests. Book your room by October 15!

HomeAid National Capital Region, Builder Captain DRB Homes, and 13 trade partners will soon start work on a renovation project at Hebron Shelter, a four-bedroom, 3,000 square-foot home owned by Good Shepherd of Northern Virginia. Good Shepherd provides group housing for mothers and children transitioning out of homelessness, and the planned renovation for this home will create a safer, more comfortable, and more functional living environment that supports stability, healing, and independence.
Inside, our team will repaint, update the kitchen and all appliances, inspect and bring the house to code, and replace carpet with durable luxury vinyl plank (LVP) flooring. In staff space, we’ll replace the carpet, paint, and add shelving for better organization and storage capacity. Outside, we’ll update and add lighting fixtures for safety and visibility, repair the foundation and address wood rot, and provide extensive landscaping to make the outdoor space welcoming for play and relaxation.
This marks the third project HomeAid and partners have worked on for Good Shepherd, and we look forward to the ribbon cutting by year-end!
Thank you, DRB Homes and trade partners, for helping us provide a safe and welcoming home in Leesburg, VA, where mothers and children in need can find comfort.

Thank you to the golfers, sponsors, and supporters who gathered for another enormously successful HomeAid Golf Tournament at Raspberry Falls. Together, we raised critical funds that will help us continue to partner with nonprofits that serve people experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness. As we build new lives through construction, community engagement, and education, this golf tournament is a celebration of giving back and forming friendships.
Proceeds from the Golf Tournament directly support our bottom line, enabling us to complete the ten construction projects we currently have in development with a level of care and craftsmanship that only HomeAid and our building partners can provide. The funds also help our nonprofit partners save thousands of dollars in construction costs, maximizing the impact of every dollar we raised out on the course.
Congratulations to the following golfers who, in addition to giving back, brought home bragging rights!

Special thanks to Bob Narod Photography for capturing the event and to all our volunteers for helping make it successful!
Annandale Millwork and Allied Systems has worked with HomeAid since 2008, completing 21 projects and currently working on a project for the Laurel Center. Long-lasting partnerships like these are at the core of HomeAid’s success in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia region, and we’re grateful to companies that continue to give back to their communities by building with us. Jackie Bates, executive vice president of Annandale Millwork and Allied Systems, shared some of the highlights from their last decade with HomeAid.

Q: What inspires you to partner with HomeAid?
A: We first became aware of HomeAid through our community-focused builder partners, as we have the pleasure of working with great builders who share many of the same values that we have when it comes to giving back and helping to support the needs of the communities where we work and live. Since then, we continue to see and hear about HomeAid’s efforts through various state builders’ association events, and we keep saying ‘yes!’ to working with HomeAid because of our passion to give back. We are honored to help, using our skills and resources, for a cause that helps so many.
Q: If another trade partner considered getting involved with and supporting HomeAid, what would you tell them about your experience?
A: It’s very fulfilling to help a cause that touches so many lives in such a deep and meaningful way, by doing what we do every day for a living. And, it’s easy because the builder partners work so closely with suppliers to ensure the project is successful – just like our daily work with them. Except this way, by partnering with HomeAid, we’re giving back to our communities.
Q: What do you feel your work provides to our nonprofit partners and the families we help serve?
A: Through all of our projects with HomeAid, we’ve provided everything from wall panels, loose lumber, roof and floor trusses, engineered wood floors, exterior trim, exterior doors, windows, interior doors and trim, and custom architectural millwork. Our work provides the materials needed to make a stable environment where resident families can thrive, while we provide the structure to create safe spaces. Lastly, our products from our custom mill shop provide beauty and a peaceful place to work or live.

Thank You
Thank you to the Maximus Foundation, for your recent generous grant that will help us provide safe and dignified housing and programmatic facilities for those experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness. We were honored to be nominated by Diane Geraghty, a Maximus employee, and thankful to all of the employees who cast their votes in support of HomeAid. Together, we will make a difference!

Builder Captain Needed
Does your company serve Warrenton, VA? HomeAid recently accepted renovation projects for two 1,100-square-foot townhomes owned by Fauquier Family Shelter Services, and we are looking for a Builder Captain (or two) to lead the efforts! Builder Captains provide the leadership and direction to complete a project envisioned by the nonprofit organization. They also rally the support of their sub-contractors and trade partners, suppliers, and manufacturers to bring in-kind donations of labor and materials to complete the project, thus minimizing the costs for the nonprofit organization. Learn more about what it means to be a Builder Captain, and please contact Kristyn Burr for more information.

Welcome
Please join us in welcoming Michelle Fargher to HomeAid as our Director of Fundraising Events. Michelle joins us with two decades of experience in donor relations, marketing, and event management with universities and college sports programs. A skilled strategist, project manager, and relationship builder, she prides herself on working toward creating meaningful, lasting impact. Having seen firsthand the difference safe, supportive housing can make in people’s lives, Michelle is excited to contribute to HomeAid’s mission and work alongside our partners to build stronger communities.
