Chantilly, VA, January 26, 2016— HomeAid Northern Virginia announced today that Gregory Carter, senior vice resident of commercial real estate banking at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, has been elected and appointed president of its board of directors.
Carter has been involved in the banking and finance side of the real estate and homebuilding industry for more than 31 years, the past 25 at Bank of America. His priorities as 2016 board president will focus on strategic planning, fundraising, expanding partnerships with homebuilders to serve as “builder captains” and increasing the number of trade partners that lend assistance to projects by donating expertise, labor and resources – enabling HomeAid Northern Virginia to provide even more construction assistance to local organizations that provide housing and services to the homeless.
“I am pleased to start with a strong balance sheet, a great board of directors and staff and a track record of success. Ultimately, as an organization we want to have the capacity to increase the number of projects we take on each year and increase the number of homebuilders and trade partners participating in our work to expand and improve housing offered to homeless and vulnerable communities in our local area,” said Carter, noting that under his leadership, he hopes to enable HomeAid Northern Virginia to take on 10 to 12 projects per year.
Carter’s appointment continues a long tradition for Bank of America: Since 2004, Bank of America has contributed more than $2 million to support HomeAid America and its 17 chapters. The company has also has been continuously represented on HomeAid Northern Virginia’s Board of Directors since the organization was founded 15 years ago, and the bank has staff members serving on multiple HomeAid boards nationwide, including HomeAid America.
Joining Carter on the HomeAid Northern Virginia 2016 executive committee are Brian Davidson (Van Metre Companies), immediate past president; Jerry Berman (M/I Homes), vice president/president-elect; Rick Cole (The Long Companies), treasurer; and David Gill (McGuire Woods, LLP), secretary. In addition, two new members were elected to the 2016 Board of Directors: John Buhl (Buhl Electric Company Inc.) and Juston Sizemore (Builders First Source).
HomeAid Northern Virginia, a chapter of HomeAid America, engages the resources and interests of the homebuilding community and its corporate partners in order to undertake new construction and major renovations to properties owned by homelessness service providers that help homeless people gain stability and get back on the road to self-sufficiency. The organization was started in 2001 by members of the Northern Virginia Building Industry Association (NVBIA), and since then, has completed 107 projects valued at a total of more than $13.6 million and serving more than 95,000 homeless individuals.
