A New Home, and a New Start, for a Family of Five

Percentage covered: 100%“HomeAid Northern Virginia has helped my family achieve our number one goal: obtaining a new home for us to start a new beginning. This is a life-changing experience that we will never forget.”

photoSo said Rosalind Beale, mother of four boys ages seven to 13, who recently moved with her family into HomeAid’s most recently completed project—a townhome owned by Reston Interfaith.

With Lincoln Property Company serving as the Builder Captain, the $18,000+ renovation included new carpeting, interior and exterior painting, updated kitchen appliances, an updated bathroom vanity, electrical work, landscaping and overall maintenance. The three bedroom, two and a half bath home was one of the first homes Reston Interfaith purchased back in 1990, and it needed a lot of attention.

photo“It’s very expensive to turn over a town house unit for a new client family,” said Nicole de Lima-Morris, assistant director for Housing and Community Development for Reston Interfaith, “and as a non-profit, it means so much to us to have a builder like Lincoln come in and do it all in-kind. It reduces our annual rehabilitation expenses and allows the use of carefully budgeted funds to be applied in other needed areas to support our growing town house affordable acquisition and social services program. The great work Lincoln has done on this additional town house unit will go a long way in making this family feel so much at home. We are very grateful for their support.”

photo“We’ve been involved with HomeAid Northern Virginia for a long time,” added Mark Kirchmeyer, vice president, Lincoln Property Company, “partly because our missions are so closely related, but also because it’s the right thing to do. We have the skills, the expertise, and the contacts … and there is so much need in the communities in which we live and work. It’s an honor to be able to help our region’s non-profits and the families that they so ably serve.”

Trade Partner Spotlight: Hann & Hann Construction Services

When it was time for Builder Captain Lincoln Property Company to reach out to trade partners for help with the Reston Interfaith project, Vice President Mark Kirchmeyer turned to Terry Hann, president of Hann & Hann, for all of the necessary exterior carpentry work.

“We’ve worked with Hann & Hann on other projects, and they’ve worked with us on previous HomeAid projects,” Kirchmeyer said. “They consistently do great work, with attention to detail and service is always a top priority. They get the job done.”

For Terry, it was an honor for his company to be asked. “It’s a great feeling knowing that we can help get people back on their feet again, and the decision to help is really a no brainer: Knowing that 100 percent of our energies and resources are going toward a family who needs shelter makes it an easy ‘yes’ decision. It’s not too often that companies get that kind of opportunity, and we’re already looking forward to helping out the next family.”

Hann & Hann was founded in 1974 as a painting contractor, later evolving into a fully integrated construction services company, including carpentry; paint and wall covering; drywall and plaster; roofing, siding, windows and gutters; concrete and asphalt; flooring, electrical and environmental.
